Sheriff issues press release following Overbrook standoff

Press Release from Sheriff Laurie Dunn
Osage County Sheriff’s Office

December 10, 2013

On December 10, 2013 at 1:00 pm a task force with members from the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office, ATF and US Marshals and deputies from Osage County Sheriff’s Office went to 306 Ash, apartment # 103 in Overbrook, Osage County in attempt to arrest a subject on a Shawnee County warrant.

The subject wanted would not exit the apartment when approached by law enforcement. A short time later a different subject exited the apartment and was detained by law enforcement.

For the safety of the occupants of the apartment complex all residents were asked to leave the building and the neighboring houses were asked to use caution. Furthermore arrangements were made to have the school children in a 3-4 block area not walk home or be left at area bus drop offs.

Numerous attempts to verbally have the subject exit the apartment were met with no success. Entry was made in the apartment. The subject was taken into custody at 7:52 pm. The subject was then transported to a local hospital and was turned over to Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office.

The Osage County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Overbrook PD, Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office, US Marshal Service, Kansas Highway Patrol and ATF.

The name of the subject involved in the stand off will be released tomorrow due to the on going investigation. Osage County Sheriff’s Office will forward obstruction charges to the Osage County Attorney for the subject involved in the stand off.
