Charlotte Ann Beverly Mills

Dec. 5, 1930 – July 10, 2019

LINCOLN, Neb. — Charlotte Ann Beverly Mills, Burlingame, died July 10, 2019, at Lincoln, Neb. She was 88.

She was born Dec. 5, 1930, at Topeka, the daughter of Ella and Glen Beverly.

She married James Macfarlane Mills at Burlingame. He survives.

She was retired. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Lincoln, Neb., and League of Women Voters.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ella and Glen Beverly; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Jessie and Charles Mills; and a sister-in-law, Sara Kukuk.

James "Jimmie" Roberts

Feb. 10, 1932 – July 15, 2019

KANSAS CITY — James "Jimmie" Roberts, Vassar, passed from this world on July 15, 2019, while visiting friends and family in Kansas City. He was 87. Even though he was alone in his car, he was blanketed in the love of his family, friends and loving memory of his wife, Millie.

He was born Feb. 10, 1932, at Kansas City, the son of Benjamin and Noreen Roberts. His final home was in Topeka, but lived most of his life in Kansas City, and then Vassar, after retirement.

Marty Ray Wilson

April 25, 1964 – April 9, 2019

ATOKA, Oka. — Marty Ray Wilson died April 9, 2019, 16 days before his 55th birthday.

He was born April 25, 1964, at Oklahoma City, Okla., the son of Marvin T. Wilson and Judith Elaine Mauldin, who is deceased.

He is a graduate of Muscatine Iowa High School in 1982 and attended Muscatine Community College and University of Texas at Dallas. He was a four year military veteran and served at the DMZ in Korea in the U.S. Army.

Dean Paul Hoffsommer

Jan. 29, 1935 – July 12, 2019

OVERBROOK — Dean Paul Hoffsommer, went to be with his family and friends in heaven on July 12, 2019, one day after his 65th wedding anniversary with his loving wife, Addie. His last days were spent at Brookside Manor, Overbrook, receiving loving care from staff and many visits from family and friends. He was 84.

He was born Jan. 29, 1935, at Topeka, the son of Paul and Irene Hoffsommer. He attended Benham Grade School and graduated from Highland Park High School in 1952.

Vance C. Spiker

July 26, 1981 – July 10, 2019

QUENEMO — Vance C. Spiker, Quenemo, died at his home, Wednesday, July 10, 2019. He was 37.

Family will greet friends 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 16 at Mercer Funeral Home, Holton, with cremation following visitation.

Mercer Funeral Home, Holton, assisted the family.

Harford “Shorty” Goodyear

Nov. 13, 1939 – July 2, 2019

TOPEKA — Harford “Shorty” Goodyear, Lyndon, died Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka. He was 79.

He was born Nov. 13, 1939, at Topeka, the son of James Eldon Goodyear and Georgetta Mary Sullivan Goodyear. He grew up in Richland, and graduated from Overbrook High School with the class of 1956. He then attended Washburn University, Topeka. He lived most of his life in the Overbrook area.

Mary C. Reid

Feb. 1, 1933 – July 4, 2019

OSAGE CITY — Mary C. Reid died Thursday, July 4, 2019, at Osage City Nursing Center, Osage City. She was 86.

She was born Feb. 1, 1933, at Portageville, Mo., the daughter of George Washington “Cap” Stewart and Etta Lucy Hart Stewart. She graduated from City of St. Louis High School in 1951.

She married Mirl Qualls in 1951and they moved to Bushong and finally ended up in Barclay. They had four children. Later they divorced. She then married Wallace Reid of Osage City. He preceded her in death. They had a son.

William Bobby Gunnells

April 12, 1943 – June 27, 2019

CARBONDALE — William Bobby Gunnells, Carbondale, passed away peacefully at his home Thursday, June 27, 2019, after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was 76.

He was born April 12, 1943, at Olar, S.C., the son of Shelley Gunnells and Judith Hair Gunnells.

He married his high school sweetheart Margaret “Maggie” Sheddan, Aug. 21, 1965, in a church at Forbes Field, Topeka. She survives.

Donna LaRue Shaw

Dec. 10, 1943 – June 12, 2019

OMAHA, Neb. — Donna LaRue Shaw, Reading, died Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at Omaha, Neb. She was 75.

Funeral services will be 4 p.m. Saturday, July 13 at Reading United Methodist Church, 25 Franklin St., Reading. Visitation will be 3 p.m. until service time.

Roger D. Love Sr.

Aug. 11, 1933 – June 24, 2019

TOPEKA — Roger D. Love Sr., Burlingame, died Monday, June 24, 2019, at Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka, surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He was 85.

He was born Aug. 11, 1933, at Burlingame on the family farm, the son of David and Reva Rogers Love. He graduated from Burlingame High School in 1951. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1962.
