Eric Eugene Johnson

Feb. 15, 1958 – May 30, 2019

LEBO — Eric Eugene Johnson, Lebo, died May 30, 2019, at his home. He was 61.

He was born Feb. 15, 1958, at Ottawa, the son of Leon Johnson and Sharon Lee Gragg Johnson. He graduated from Melvern High School in 1976. He spent most of his life as a construction welder and mechanical maintenance technician, both here and abroad.

He married Beverlee Dian Peavy, March 30, 1979. To this union were born two children. They were later divorced.

Tanya Trego

July 15, 1957 – June 1, 2019

TOPEKA — Tanya Trego, Lyndon, died Saturday, June 1, 2019, at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka. She was 61.

She was born July 15, 1957, at Henrietta, Okla., daughter of Carl and Analou Baker Higgins. She lived in Lyndon for the past 30 years. She worked at Ned Hiatt's R.V. Sales for several years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Analou; two brothers, James Higgins and Glen Higgins; and a sister, Carlene Price.

Sharon Bryson Stromgren

April 11, 1964 – May 29, 2019

SCRANTON — Sharon Bryson Stromgren, Scranton, died May 29, 2019, at home after battling cancer and many years spent with multiple sclerosis. She was 55.

She was born April 11, 1964, at Topeka, the daughter of Gene and Ruth Bryson. As a child, she grew up on a family farm near Burlingame, where she enjoyed spending time with her family and helping out.

Wayne O'Brien

Jan. 4, 1937 – May 27, 2019

TOPEKA — Wayne O'Brien, Overbrook, died Monday, May 27, 2019, at Francis Hospital, Topeka. He was 82.

He was born Jan. 4, 1937, at Ottawa, the son of Andrew and Thelma Snethen O'Brien. He lived most of his life in the Overbrook community.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957. He worked at DuPont, Topeka, until his retirement. He was a member of Grace Community Church, Overbrook, and Topeka Ski Club since 1984. He was a faithful K.U. fan and followed his children and grandchildren to their sporting events and concerts.

Joyce Hearn

Died – May 24, 2019

VASSAR — Joyce Hearn, Vassar, died Friday, May 24, 2019. She was 76.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 30 at Schneider Funeral Home and Crematory, Pleasanton Chapel. Burial will follow at Prescott Cemetery.

Jess "Butch" Darrell Bartee

Aug. 16, 1944 – May 26, 2019

TOPEKA — Jess "Butch" Darrell Bartee, 74, Topeka, died Sunday, May 26, 2019. He was 74.

He was born Aug. 16, 1944, at Emporia, the son of Loyd Bartee and Wilma Bailey Badgley. He graduated from Olivet High School, Olivet.

He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War. He was currently employed by Stormont-Vail Regional Health Center engineering department where he worked for over 35 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, John "Jack" Badgley and Lynn Bartee.

Thelma J. Greeve Knight

Died – May 24, 2019

OLATHE — Thelma J. Greeve Knight, Ottawa, died Friday, May 24, 2019, at Hospice House of Olathe. She was 71.

A graveside funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, May 30, at Ramskill Memorial Chapel, Burlingame Cemetery, Burlingame.

James "Jim" Heisler

Oct. 2, 1947 – May 24, 2019

VASSAR — James "Jim" Heisler, Vassar, died Friday, May 24, 2019, at his home at Lake Pomona. He was 71.

He was born on Oct. 2, 1947, in Greenwood County.

Jim was cremated and private family services will be held at a later date.

Feltner Funeral Home, Lyndon, is assisting the family.

Ervin Gailey

May 23, 1926 – May 20, 2019

OSAGE CITY — Ervin Gailey died Monday, May 20, 2019, at Osage Nursing Center, Osage City. He was 92.

He was born May 23, 1926, at Rocky Comfort, Mo., the son of Arthur and Ella Routhon Gailey. He grew up in Gentry, Ark., and had lived in Siloam Springs, Ark., before moving to Osage City in 1960.

He owned and operated Gailey's Cleaners, Osage City, from 1960 to 1990. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Osage City American Legion and Salt Creek Lighthouse Assembly of God Church, Lyndon.

Reece D. Hobby III

Died – May 7, 2019

OSAGE CITY — Reece Devon Hobby III, Osage City, shed his earthly burden May 7, 2019, surrounded by his family, after a long, hard fought battle with cancer. He has started a new adventure and is blazing a trail for the rest of us to follow.
