Reta Mae Riggin

Nov. 25, 1933 – Oct. 4 2017

TOPEKA — Reta Mae Riggin, Harveyville, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017, at a Topeka hospital. She was 83.

She was born Nov. 25, 1933, at Harveyville, the daughter of Robert Melvin and Esther Louise Romine Chatham. She graduated from Burlingame High School in 1952.

She worked for Harveyville Grade School in the 1990s. She was a member of Burlingame Federated Church and Harveyville United Methodist Church. She was a faithful mother and farm wife.

Mildred R. Romine

Dec. 14, 1924 – Oct. 2, 2017

EMPORIA — Mildred R. Romine, Emporia died Monday, Oct. 2, 2017, at Emporia Presbyterian Manor. She was 92.

She was born Dec. 14, 1924, in rural Lyon County, the daughter of Howard A. and Leona Finnell Rees.

She married Dean L. Romine April 30, 1943, at Emporia. He died Oct. 29, 1986, at Emporia.

She was a homemaker, rancher, jeweler and owner of the Gold Nugget in Emporia.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Barry Dean Romine; and a sister, Imogene Wolvington.

Dorothy Fillmore

Nov. 10, 1927 – Sept. 27, 2017

OLATHE —Dorothy Nadine Croucher Fillmore, Colony, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2017, at Olathe Hospice House, Olathe. She was 89.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Oct. 3 at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Iola. The family will greet friends from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Colony Cemetery, Colony.

Bobby Roberts

May 3, 1945 – Sept. 30, 2017

CARBONDALE — Bobby Roberts, Carbondale, passed away peacefully Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017, at his home surrounded by family. He was 72.

He was born May 3, 1945, in Osage County, the eighth child of Warren and Vada Coday Roberts.

He held many jobs before going to Hills Pet Food where he remained for over 37 years until he retired.

He married Mary Jean Dawson, June 6, 1964, at her home in Carbondale. She survives of the home.

Louis Anthony DeBarge

Oct. 6, 1958 – Sept. 29, 2017

HOLTON — Louis Anthony “Tony” DeBarge, Holton, died Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 58.

He was born Oct. 6, 1958, at St. Louis, Mo., the son of Donald Anthony DeBarge and Norma Jean Riley Roberts. He graduated from Holton High School in 1977 and lived most of his life in Holton.

He worked for 30 years at Logan Business Machines in Topeka, only retiring because of his health. He belonged to the Monday Night Guys for more than 20 years.

Dean Gilbert Gardner

Feb. 12, 1926 – Aug. 23, 2017

OSAGE CITY — Dean Gilbert Gardner, life long resident of Osage City, died Wednesday, Aug. 23, 2017, at Vintage Park of Osage City. He was 91.

He was born Feb. 12, 1926, at Osage City, the son of Jess E. and Cecelia A. Kiwitter Gardner. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He had built, owned and operated Dean’s Drive-In and Dean’s Restaurant in Osage City for 37 years.

William Ray Trueblood

Oct. 13, 1939 – Sept. 17, 2017

OSAGE CITY — William Ray Trueblood died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, at Osage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was 77.

He was born Oct. 13, 1939, at Barclay, the son of Claude L. and Ellen Marconett Trueblood. He attended Osage City High School and graduated with the class of 1957.

He joined the Kansas National Guard in 1960. After serving for 30 years he retired as a Master Sergeant in 1990.

He married Shirley Scott Sept. 4, 1960, at Osage City. They would late divorce.

Sharon Ann Moon

Dec. 9, 1955 – Sept. 17, 2017

TOPEKA — Sharon Ann Moon, Topeka, died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, at a Topeka hospital. She was 61.

She was born Dec. 9, 1955, at Fort Worth, Texas, the daughter of William Harold and Billie Jo Davis Forkner.

Sharon worked as a medication aide for several local nursing homes. She loved to sew and crochet but most of all she loved spending time with her grandkids.

She married Jimmy Peterson, they were later divorced. She married Thomas L. Moon June 25, 1984, at Odessa, Texas. He survives of the home.

Phyllis Ann Sluder

July 23, 1930 – Sept. 15, 2017

OTTAWA — Phyllis Ann Sluder, Quenemo, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at the Ottawa Retirement Village. She was 87.

She was born on July 23, 1930, at Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of John and Grace Scherer Rusk. She grew up in Kansas City and lived in Tonganoxie before moving to rural Quenemo in 1970.

She graduated from the University of Missouri and worked for AT&T as an assistant engineer. She then earned a teaching degree from Emporia State University and taught elementary school for 15 years at USD 456.

Nona Maurine Adams

Dec. 22, 1923 – Sept. 13, 2017

LAWRENCE — Nona Maurine Adams, Osage City, died Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence. She was 93.

She was born Dec. 22, 1923, at Manhattan, the daughter of Albert Edward and Mary Lee Turner Waterstradt. She graduated from Chapman High School in 1941. She earned a degree in mathematics from the University of Kansas in 1945 and a master’s degree in library science from Emporia State University in 1972.
