Rachelle Thurston

LYNDON — Rachelle Thurston, Lyndon, died Sunday, April 28, 2019. She was 49.

She was born July 29, 1969, at Cleveland, Okla., the daughter of Floyd and Chris Goddard. She was a long time resident of Osage County and lived in Lyndon the last two years. She graduated from Prue High School, Prue, Okla., with the class of 1987.

Jerry “Goose” Dean Ormsby

July 29, 1953 – April 26, 2019

TOPEKA — Jerry “Goose” Dean Ormsby, Osage City, passed away peacefully with family at his side, Friday, April 26, 2019, at Healthcare Resorts, Topeka. He was 65.

He was born July 29, 1953, son of Alvin and Leota Ormsby, Osage City. He served Osage City community as a police officer for 20 years. He also volunteered his time with the fire department until health issues forced him to retire. He worked for COF, Osage City.

Jill Nicole Casten Downing

June 17, 1980 – April 23, 2019

MANHATTAN — Jill Nicole Casten Downing Tuesday, April 23, 2019, at her home in Manhattan. She was 38.

She was born June 17, 1980, at Ottawa, the daughter of the late, Joyce Stinson Casten and Jeff Casten.

She grew up in Quenemo and graduated from Marais des Cygnes Valley High School in 1998. She lived in Manhattan since 2014.

William “Bill” Smith Sr.

Nov. 1, 1925 – April 28, 2019

TOPEKA — William “Bill” Smith Sr., Topeka, died Sunday, April 28, 2019. He was 93.

He was born Nov. 1, 1925, at Franklin, Neb., the son of Francis and Daisie Baker Smith.

He married Julia Maus, July 30, 1946, at her parents’ home. She preceded him in death March 22, 2006.

He worked in construction as well as managed his own farm. He had a lifelong love for farming. He and his wife, Julia, purchased a farm in 1950 near Harveyville, that he actively farmed until two years ago, but was involved with until his death.

Rick J. Harper

Feb. 6, 1952 – March 20. 2019

ELLSWORTH — Rick J. Harper died March 20, 2019. He was 67.

He was born Feb. 6, 1952, at Salina, the son of Harland and Marcelyn Davis Harper.

He married Kim Lindburg April 24, 1982, at Lindsborg. She survives.

He was deputy sheriff for Ellsworth County Sheriff’s Department for many years. He was a sports enthusiast, bowled for many years, enjoyed cheering for KSU Wildcats and Kansas City Royals and loved fishing with his fishing buddy, Ken.

Brenda L. "Aunt B" Dorr

May 28, 1959 – April 17, 2019

TOPEKA — Brenda L. "Aunt B" Dorr, Burlingame, died Wednesday, April 17, 2019, at a Topeka hospital. She was 59.

She was born May 28, 1959, at Topeka, the daughter of Gerald "Shot" and Patty Whitmore Harr. She graduated from Burlingame High School in 1977 and attended Emporia State University.

She owned and operated her own businesses in Burlingame, The Craft Shop for 10 years and Aunt B's for the last 20 years. She was a member of the Burlingame City Council and was the first female mayor of Burlingame.

Beulah McGlasson Shaw Huffman

Oct. 9, 1920 – April 11, 2019

OVERBROOK — Beulah Beatrice Huffman died Thursday, April 11, 2019, at Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook. She was 98.

She was born October 9,1920, at Las Animas, Colo., the daughter of Emile H. and Bessie Kerfoot Fildes.

She married Bernice McGlasson, Moline, Aug. 15, 1938. They were parents of two sons, William Boyd McGlasson and Herman Loyd McGlasson. He was killed on June 7, 1952, while working for the REA. After his death, she moved to Arkansas City.

Marjorie Louise Jones Hunsicker

Feb. 10, 1918 – March 22, 2019

OSAGE CITY — Marjorie Louise Hunsicker went to be with the Lord, Friday, March 22, 2019, at Osage Nursing Center, Osage City. She was 101.

She was born Feb. 10, 1918, at Great Falls, Mont., the daughter of Clement Ira and Helen Margaret Davis Jones. She graduated from Paseo High School, Kansas City, Mo.

She married Noble Edward Hunsicker, June 29, 1940, at Kansas City, Mo. He preceded her in death in 1989. To this union five children were born, David, Dean, Darrell, Diane and Dallas. She was a mother and a homemaker.

Marjorie Louise Jones Hunsicker

Albert Smith

July 17, 1923 – April 8, 2019

TOPEKA — Albert Smith, Overbrook, died Monday, April 8, 2019, at Midland Hospice House, Topeka. He was 95.

He was born July 17, 1923, on the family farm north of Osage City, the son of Virgil and Florence Anderson Smith, Sr. He lived near Richland before moving to a farm north of Overbrook.

He served in the U.S. Navy as a Petty Officer 2nd Class from 1943 to 1946 during World War II. He farmed for 68 years.
