John Henry Atchison

Sept. 26, 1930 – Feb. 18, 2019

OSAGE CITY — John Henry Atchison died Monday, Feb. 18, 2019, at his home in Osage City. He was 88.

He was born Sept. 26, 1930, at Osage City, the son of John H. and Florence Gunterman Atchison.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 8, 1952 and served during the Korean War. He received a honorable discharge as a sergeant in May 1954.

He married Marguerite Schnoor in summer 1961 at Oklahoma. After almost 20 years of marriage they were divorced.

Margaret N. Weems

Jan. 22, 1926 – Feb. 15, 2019

BURLINGAME — Margaret N. Weems, Burlingame, went to be with the Lord Friday, Feb. 15, 2019. She was 93.

She was born Jan. 22, 1926, at Emporia, the daughter of William M. and Minnie Hammond Buck. She graduated from Emporia High School in 1943. She worked for Santa Fe Rail Road as a telegraph agent retiring after 43 years of service.

Jefferson "Jeff" Molloy

Dec. 4, 1931 – Feb. 15, 2019

TOPEKA — Jefferson "Jeff" Molloy, Carbondale, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2019, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka. He was 87.

He was born Dec. 4, 1931, at Galt, Mo., son of John and Della Hess Molloy. He grew up in Missouri and moved to Kansas in 1954. He lived in Carbondale since 1971.

He worked for Firestone Tire in sales and service for many years.

He married Margaret Ralls Feb. 19, 1951, at Chillicothe, Mo. She survives of the home.

Eloise McGeeney

June 15, 1929 – Feb. 12, 2019

LYNDON — Eloise McGeeney died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019, at her home in Lyndon. She was 89.

She was born June 15, 1929, at Hiawatha, the daughter of James and Eva Nigus Jones. She lived in Hiawatha for many years before moving to Lyndon.

Clarel N. Herring

Jan.9, 1931 – Feb. 9, 2019

TOPEKA — Clarel N. Herring, Burlingame, died Feb. 9, 2019, at Presbyterian Manor, Topeka. She was 88.

She was born Jan. 9, 1931, at Johnson, the daughter of Glen and Elma Stoner. She and her parents moved to Sandpoint, Idaho in 1935 during the dust bowl. In November 1941, they moved to San Francisco, Calif., so her father could work in the shipyards. Following World War II they moved back to Sandpoint, Idaho, where she graduated high school. She then attended one year of college in Denver, Colo.

Jimmy L. Schirmer

Died – Feb. 10, 2019

OVERBROOK — Jimmy L. Schirmer, Overbrook, died Feb. 10, 2019 at home surrounded by his family. He was 68.

He is the son of George and Amelia Schirmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a half-brother, Frank Schirmer; and several half-sisters.

Alice Leland Cooper

Aug. 13, 1922 – Feb. 5, 2019

ST. JOHN — Alice Leland Cooper died Feb. 5, 2019, at Kenwood Plaza, St. John. She was 96.

She was born Aug. 13, 1922, at Cummings, the daughter of Walter and Daisy Jarrott Leland. She was a lifelong resident of St. John, where she was a homemaker and former Stafford County Extension Agent.

She graduated from Manhattan High School and received a bachelor’s degree in home economics from Kansas State University.

She married Carleton Cooper June 4, 1950, at Manhattan. He preceded her in death in 2007.

Mary Kay Rappard

May 11, 1945 — Feb. 2, 2019

FULTON, Texas — Mary Kay Rappard, Fulton, Texas, died Feb. 2, 2019, at her home after a very long battle with cancer. She was 73.

She was born May 11, 1945, at Emporia, daughter of James and Ermal Parre, Osage City. She lived and attended school in Osage City.

She married Jon Rappard Sept. 4, 1964. He survives.

Mary and Jon lived at Topeka, and Omaha, Neb., prior to moving to Fulton, Texas, in 2004.

Kathleen M. Kessinger

Nov. 21, 1947 – Jan. 13, 2019

LAWRENCE — Kathleen M. Kessinger, Lawrence, formerly of Burlingame, died Jan. 13, 2019. She was 71.

She was born Nov. 21, 1947, Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Emmett M. and Margaret J. Burns Spain.

She married K. Kurt Kessinger, April 3, 1971, at Junction City. He preceded her in death on March 2, 2002.

Wanda Paxton

Nov. 13, 1922 – Jan. 29, 2019

TOPEKA — Wanda Paxton, Osage City, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019, at St. Francis Hospital, Topeka. She was 96.

She was born Nov. 13, 1922, at Miller, the daughter of Ira and Helen Hoglund Smith. She grew up around the Miller community and lived in Osage City for many years.
