Helen Earlene Crook

Feb. 5, 1946 – Feb. 21, 2014

OSAGE COUNTY—Helen Earlene Bledsoe Crook, was delivered from cancer unto eternal life Feb. 21, 2014, at her home in rural Osage County. She was 68.

She was born Feb. 5, 1946, at Topeka, the daughter of Clark Earl and Maxine Rishel Bledsoe. She grew up on the family farm in north Osage County.

She graduated from Shawnee Heights High School in 1964. She trusted Jesus Christ as her savior when she was 18 years-old.

She married Theodore “Ted” Crook May 6, 1966, at Topeka. He survives of the home.

Darren Leslie Michaels

April 26, 1965 – Feb. 21, 2014

SCRANTON—Darren Leslie Michaels, Scranton, died Feb. 21, 2014, at his home. He was 48.

He was born April 26, 1965, at San Antonio, Texas, the son of Floyd and Irene Stewart Michaels. He was born in San Antonio, but spent most of his years in Kansas.

He graduated from Shawnee Heights High School in 1983. He worked at Montgomery Ward’s and later was employed by Innovia Films as a film slitter. He was a member of Scranton United Methodist Church. He loved to sing and perform Karaoke.

Dorothy Mae Masters

Jan. 9, 1936 ¬– Feb. 21, 2014

TOPEKA—Dorothy Mae Masters, Harveyville, died Feb. 21, 2014, at Midland Hospice Care, Topeka. She was 78.

She was born Jan. 9, 1936, at Eskridge, to Fred Lorenza and Golden Myrtle McMaster Eastman.

She graduated from Eskridge Rural High School in 1954, and Sisters of Charity School of Nursing at Providence Hospital, Kansas City, affiliated with St. Mary College at Xavier, in 1957. She also attended Washburn University, Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia and Allen Community College plus taking additional nursing courses.

Thomas Edward Thompson

July 4, 1924 - Feb. 21, 2014

TOPEKA—Thomas Edward Thompson, Osage City, died Feb. 21, 2014. He was 89.

He was born July 4, 1924, at Barclay, the son of Louis and Gladys Walker Thompson. He was a lifelong farmer.

He married Helen Maxine Bostrom, Scranton, in 1950. She preceded him in death on Dec. 12, 2013.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Edward Jay Thompson; and a brother, Clinton.

Jimmy Dean Gates

Oct. 15, 1940 - Feb. 19, 2014

OVERBROOK—Jimmy Dean Gates, Overbrook, died Feb. 19, 2014. He was 73.

He was born Oct. 15, 1940, in a farmhouse near Paola, the son of the late Lloyd and Floy Bingham Gates. He graduated from Paola High school and received a bachelor’s degree in animal husbandry from Kansas State University in 1962.

He married Mary Ruth Gasaway Feb. 1, 1964, at Wichita. Jim and Mary recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. She survives of the home.

Dolores “Dee” Land Jenkins

Feb. 15, 1921 – Feb. 19, 2914

PEORIA, Ariz.—Dolores “Dee” Land Jenkins, Peoria, Ariz., died Feb. 19, 2014, following a stroke the morning of her 93rd birthday. She was 93.

Those 93 years were happy and active right up until the very last evening when she was thrilled with her Valentine’s Day flowers and her upcoming birthday party the next day.

She was born Feb. 15, 1921, at Carbondale, the daughter of William and Dora Land.

Jessie May Corpening

May 31, 1931 – Feb. 19, 2014

OSAGE CITY—Jessie May Roseanna Claypole Webb Corpening, formerly of Topeka, went to be with her Lord and Savior Feb. 19, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born May 31, 1931, at Orrick, Mo., the daughter of William Franklin and Eugenia May Jones Claypole.

Barney Buchanan

Jan. 15, 1928 – Feb. 13, 2014

LEAVENWORTH—Barney Buchanan, Tonganoxie, died Feb. 13, 2014, at Veterans Administration Hospital, Leavenworth. He was 86.

He was born Jan. 15, 1928, at Eldon, Mo., the son of Barney and Roberta Cooper Buchanan. He graduated from high school and immediately joined the Navy. After his honorable discharge, he worked for Sealrite Corporation for 19 years, TWA security 23 years, and retired in 1989. He served as a reserve police officer at several Johnson County police departments and Osage County Sherriff’s Department.

Anna Louise “Ann” Hauber

Feb. 24, 1922 – Feb. 15, 2014

KANSAS CITY, Mo.—Anna Louise “Ann” Hauber, Osawatomie, died Feb. 15, 2014, at Kansas City Hospice House, Kansas City, Mo. She was 91.

She was born Feb. 24, 1922, at Burlingame, the only child born to Edward and Anna Rosetta. The family moved to Osage City, when she was a baby. She graduated from Osage City High School with the class of 1940.

She married William F. “Bill” Hauber June 27, 1944, at Osage City. He preceded her in death in 1984.

Everett W. Criqui

March 29, 1922 – Feb. 13, 2014

BURLINGTON—Everett W. Criqui, Olivet, died Feb. 13, 2014, at Coffey County Hospital, Burlington. He was 91.

He was born March 29, 1922, at Olivet, the son of Ralph and Ruey Allison Criqui. He was a graduate of Olivet High School class of 1939.

He married Darlene “Connie” Joss Feb. 9, 1942, at Osage City. She preceded him in death on April 7, 2001.

As a young couple they lived briefly in Butler, Mo., before moving back to Olivet in 1944, where he operated a dairy farm. They enjoyed over 50 years of marriage.
