Isabelle Irene Bruce

OSAGE CITY—Isabelle Irene Bruce died Aug. 29, 2014, at Peterson Nursing Home, Osage City. She was 87.

She was born Sept. 13, 1926, at Burlington, the daughter of William and Pearl Irene McGhann Germann. She was a graduate of New Strawn High School.

She married Woodrow “Woody” Bruce Oct. 12, 1946, at Cottonwood Falls. He preceded her in death on Sept. 3, 1968.

She was a switchboard operator for Southwestern Bell for over 50 years until her retirement in the mid 1980’s.

She was very instrumental in the upbringing of most of her grandchildren and took great pride in the fact that she had the opportunity to help raise them.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Stafford; three sons, Richard Bruce, Randy Bruce and Curtis Bruce; three sisters, Virginia, Beulah and Marie; and three brothers, Ray, Ernie and Hubert Germann.

She will be lovingly remembered by two sisters, Leota Simon, Burlington, and Laverne Holscher, Broken Arrow, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great- great-grandchild.

Funeral services are planned for 10 a.m. Sept. 3 at Countryside Baptist Church, Osage City. Burial will follow at Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia. The family will receive friends an hour prior to services at the church.
