OVERBROOK - Patricia Ann Hamner Waller, Overbrook, died June 28, 2018, at Overbrook. She was 82.

She was born Oct. 20, 1935, at Manhattan, the daughter of Charles R. and Mary Hamner.

She married Albert J. Waller March 21, 1959, at Topeka.

She was preceded in death by her spouse and her parents.

She is survived by her two sons, Kirk and Doug Waller; a sister, Margaret Miller; a brother, Charles E. Hamner; five grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters.

Mary F. Vandevord

April 28, 1936 – July 4, 2018

OVERBROOK — Mary F. Vandevord, Scranton, died Wednesday, July 4, 2018, Brookside Retirement Community, Overbrook. She was 82.

She was born April 28, 1936, at Bazaar, the daughter of Tom and Inez Russell Fisher. She graduated from Burlingame High School in 1954 and from Clark's Business School.

She was a hard working farm wife and homemaker. She loved to travel, cook, go to casino's and work crossword puzzles.

She married Dale E. Vandevord Nov. 24, 1954, at Topeka. He survives of the home.

Blue-Green Algae at Melvern Lake's Outlet Park

The U.S Army Corps of Engineers announce the existence of a blue-green algae bloom at the Outlet Park Campground (River Pond) and Outlet Park swim beach downstream of Melvern Lake. Blue-green algae identification tests have confirmed the presence of the algae.

Dennis Dale Combes

Sept. 18, 1951 – June 30, 2018

TOPEKA — Dennis Dale Combes, Osage City, died Saturday, June 30, 2018, at Stormont Vail Hospital, Topeka. He was 66.

He was born Sept. 18, 1951, at Burlington, the son of Walter Clinton and Ethel Lorene Norris Combes. He graduated from Reading High School in 1969. He served with the Army Reserves after high school.

He married Colleen Ann Combes Feb. 19, 1971, Lebo. She survives of the home. To this union three children were born, Angela, Amanda and Lance.

Marvin Crumb

May 24, 1939 – June 21, 2018

HARVEYVILLE — Marvin Crumb died June 21, 2018, after a year-long battle with cancer. He was 79.

He was born May 24,1939. He was born and raised in Harveyville. His life took him to the west coast where he had a successful career in the electronics business. He served as president and CEO of NCR, Mannesman Tally and Opcon before eventually owning and running his own company Terra Technology that manufactured earthquake sensing devices.

Erma Shelinbarger

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Erma "Red" Shelinbarger, Augusta, Iowa, died Friday, June 29, 2018, at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, Iowa. She was 71.

Graveside service and burial was Tuesday, July 3 at Augusta Cemetery, Augusta, Iowa.

Jack Allegre

Aug. 30, 1925 – July 2, 2018

EMPORIA — Jack Allegre, 92, of Lebo, KS, died July 2, 2018 at the Emporia Presbyterian Manor. He was 92.

He was born Aug. 30, 1925 at Wichita, the only child of Kenneth M. and Lulu Mae Leach Allegre. He was a lifelong resident and booster of Lebo, moving there before his first birthday when his father opened the Allegre Rexall Drugstore.

Heather Dianne Bartlett

Dec. 2. 1969 – June 12, 2018

EMPORIA — Heather Dianne Bartlett died June 12, 2018, at her home in Emporia. She was 48.

She was born Dec. 2, 1969, at Topeka, the daughter of Marvin and Linda Meyer Bartlett. She graduated from Marais des Cygnes Valley High School in 1988. She attended Emporia State University where she received her Bachelor's of Science in nursing.
