100-year-old woman still makes time for grandchildren
LYNDON — One-hundred years. Four children, 13 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren. It all adds up to a lifetime of family and love.
When Goldie Adams celebrated her 100th birthday Aug. 2, she was surrounded by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, with the youngest at 1-years-old. In honor of Grandparents’ Day Sunday, Sept. 10, she reflected on what it means to be a grandma.

Frances Anna Sloop

March 11, 1931 – Sept. 1, 2017

Topeka — Frances Anna Sloop, Lyndon, died Friday, Sept. 1, 2017, at Stormont-Vail Hospital, Topeka. She was 86.

She was born March 11, 1931, at Concordia, Mo., the daughter of John and Anna Heins Borgelt. She lived in Kansas City, Mo., before moving to the Lyndon community in 1954.

Lara Nell Gragg Stout

Nov. 16, 1925 – Aug. 29, 2017

MERIDEN — Lara Nell Gragg Stout, Meriden, died Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2017, at Kelly House, Meriden. She was 91.

She was born Nov. 16, 1925, at home in rural La Harpe in Allen County, the daughter of Harry and Silva Morrison Smoot.

She graduated from Iola High School in 1943 and went to work at Beech Aircraft Corporation, Wichita. While in Wichita, she completed the Red Cross nurse aide course and worked as a nurse’s aide at St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.

BURLINGAME – A Burlingame was in Burlingame last week.

Richard Burlingame, a truck driver from Pennsylvania, stopped at various sites Tuesday, Aug. 22, in Burlingame for a quick tour of the city named after his distant cousin, Anson Burlingame.

James Sosebee

Died – Aug. 26, 2017

TOPEKA — James "Rock" Sosebee, Vassar, died Saturday, August 26, 2017, at Colmery O’Neil VA Medical Center, Topeka. He was 75.

Memorial services are being planned for November with Feltner Funeral Home, Lyndon.

Alice Cellers Weir

Jan. 27, 1925 – Aug. 27, 2017

OVERBROOK — Alice Cellers Weir passed away peacefully Aug. 27, 2017, at Overbrook. She was 92.

She was born Jan. 27, 1925, the daughter of Harold and Lois Moore Cellers. The family moved to Carbondale from Auburn when Alice was 11 years-old.

Francsica “Frances” Moreno Lira

Oct. 10, 1913

OSAGE CITY — Francsica “Frances” Moreno Lira died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2017, at her home in Osage City. She was 103.

She was born Oct. 10, 1913, at San Franciso de Rencon, Mexico, the daughter of Nicholas Lira and Gabriella Moreno. Her family moved to the United States when she was 2-years-old.

She was a housekeeper the majority of her life. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and Altar Society in Osage City.
